Research Assistant
Industry 4.0 Research Centre
Worked on Industry 4.0 research projects, exploring how AI can make manufacturing systems smarter and more adaptive. A mix of literature review, prototyping, and figuring out which ideas actually hold up when you test them.

Supported academic research through data analysis and documentation. Learned that there is a real difference between code that runs and code that proves something, and that good research starts with asking the right question.

Most students stop learning after the exam. Tariq started showing up to office hours asking about ML architectures and cloud deployment — none of it on the syllabus. He completed Stanford's ML certification on his own, and his TensorFlow digit classifier showed he understood the math behind the model, not just the API calls. That distinction matters.
Tariq returned to our Industrial 4.0 Research Center three separate times when he didn't have to. Each term we gave him more — first literature reviews, then co-designing experiments, eventually presenting findings to the group. Most undergraduates treat research as a CV line. Tariq treated it as something he was responsible for. That's the difference.
Tariq joined our Industrial 4.0 Research Center as a second-year — earlier than most. He took on the unglamorous work without complaint: literature reviews, data cleaning, re-running experiments. His graduation project confirmed what we already knew — he doesn't cut corners. I'd rank him among the very top students I've supervised.
Most interns need hand-holding with Angular. Tariq was writing production-grade components by week three and pushing back on design decisions with sound reasoning. He also placed second in our internal coding competition — which, honestly, didn't surprise me. His GitHub tells the real story: he actually finishes what he starts.
